The Top Gear Interceptors
Back in the UK, in the 60′s and 70′s the TV schedules were awash with detective shows: “The Saints”, “The Persuaders” “The Avengers”…
All shows basically the same. Every week a good looking man would check in a swanky hotel, punch a few bad guys in the face and then go to bed with a pretty lady. (Clarkson dixit)
Now, the only real difference between all these shows was the cars: Lord Brett Sinclair (Roger Moore) had his Aston Martin DBS, Steed (Patrick Macnee) had a Broadspeed tuned Jaguar and The Saint had a Volvo P1800 coupe.
But none of them ever drove the British Jensen Interceptor. With a name like that how could it be? Well looks can be deceiving and the original Jensen Interceptors, build in the UK in the 70′s turned out to be quite a stinker.
But in this special episode, Jeremy discovers a new Interceptor. One equipped with the 6.2 L V8 from the modern day Corvette, a modern suspension and brakes. But more importantly the body, that glorious Italian styling is untouched and really will there ever be a better name put on a car: The Interceptor!
Thanks to 429 hp, 0-60 mph is dealt with in 4.5 sec and hits a top speed 167 mph. But more than anything this is a time machine. A car from an era where Clarkson is not a TV host on Top Gear but the star of… The Interceptors.
